EDsession: Augmented Design: How VR, AR and AI will Change Education

  • Date:Wednesday, October 23
  • Time:8:00 AM - 9:00 AM
  • Location:Classroom 203
  • Description: AR, VR and AI are poised to substantially shift student engagement and innovation, content delivery and administrative processes in education. The design of the built (and un-built) environment must respond to and advance this revolution. Immersion rooms will be added to the program, while attendance offices and computer labs may be omitted. Mannequins in Health Science labs can be exchanged for virtual patients. Dynamic walls along circulation paths will become passive instructors. Adaptive retrofits will be discussed alongside flexible new construction and remote learning. In addition, incorporating these technologies during visioning and design will set a precedent for innovation.
  • Learning Objective 1:Understand the tangible effects virtual tools have on the physical environment.
  • Learning Objective 2:Envision a day in the life of a student ten years from now.
  • Learning Objective 3:Discuss how the visioning and design process can be crafted using the same tools being integrated into education.
  • Learning Objective 4:Learn from case studies and existing research to increase understanding and application of the topic.
